Cambridge riot of 1963
The Cambridge riot of 1963, was a race riot that occurred on June 14, 1963 in Cambridge, Maryland, a small town on the Eastern Shore.〔("The Cambridge Riots of 1963 and 1967" ''Teaching American History in Maryland:Classroom Documents'' (Maryland State Archives) )〕 It emerged from the campaign for civil rights led by Gloria Richardson and the local chapter of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, along with the violent repression by pro-segregationist civilians and police.
